WASHINGTON — After new reporting Saturday revealed that Trump’s Justice Department shut down an FBI investigation into Border Czar Tom Homan accepting $50,000 in cash from undercover agents in exchange for steering government contracts their way, the Not Above the Law coalition’s co-chairs call out the corruption and call on Homan to resign.
The FBI captured Homan on hidden cameras accepting the money in September 2024, but Trump appointees abruptly closed the case, dismissing it as a “deep state” probe. In response, the Not Above the Law coalition’s co-chairs – Lisa Gilbert, Co-President of Public Citizen; Praveen Fernandes, Vice President of the Constitutional Accountability Center; Kelsey Herbert, Campaign Director at MoveOn; and Brett Edkins, Managing Director for Policy and Political Affairs at Stand Up America – released the following statement:
“Tom Homan was filmed accepting a bag stuffed with $50,000 in cash, and Trump’s DOJ seems to have tried to cover it up. This is sadly the kind of flagrant corruption we’ve come to expect from Trump and his cronies. The Justice Department is putting loyalty to Trump above its duty to enforce the law. Homan should resign immediately, and those responsible for burying his investigation must be held accountable. Americans deserve a government that enforces the law – not one that rewards and protects corruption.”
