| Third Trump Critic Charged in Three Weeks as DOJ Becomes Tool for Presidential Vengeance |
| WASHINGTON, DC — Following the indictment of former National Security Advisor John Bolton, the Not Above the Law coalition condemns the politicization of the Department of Justice. Bolton’s indictment is the third politically-motivated prosecution in as many weeks by a DOJ that appears to have surrendered its independence. Coming just one week after the indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James – and less than a month after charges were filed against former FBI Director James Comey – this indictment represents a chilling escalation in Trump’s misuse of federal prosecutors and the Department of Justice to silence opposition. The timing tells the real story: the investigation of Bolton was fast-tracked only after he began publicly denouncing Trump, published a memoir exposing the former president’s conduct, and became one of the Republican party’s most forceful voices against his former boss’ authoritarian impulses. Three people who were on Trump’s “enemies list.” The pattern is undeniable: speak out against Trump, become a target of the DOJ. “The message from this administration couldn’t be clearer: loyalty gets rewarded, dissent gets investigated. While Trump’s handpicked prosecutors work overtime delivering indictments against his critics, actual threats to American safety go unaddressed. “A Department of Justice that acts in service of presidential revenge rather than public safety threatens democracy itself.
