Blanche Is Forcing Taxpayers to Foot the Bill for Trump’s Vanity Ballroom

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the Washington Post revealed internal contractor documents showing Trump’s White House ballroom project costs $600 million, with taxpayers covering over $307 million. Trump claimed the project was “taxpayer-free. We have no taxpayer putting up 10 cents.” Meanwhile, Todd Blanche, Trump’s AG nominee and personal fixer, actively championed the project in federal court.

In response, the Not Above the Law coalition’s co-chairs – Lisa Gilbert, Co-President of Public Citizen; Praveen Fernandes, Vice President of the Constitutional Accountability Center; Kelsey Herbert, Campaign Director at MoveOn; and Brett Edkins, Managing Director for Policy and Political Affairs at Stand Up America – issued the following statement:

“While working families worry about the cost of gas and groceries, Todd Blanche  helped clear the way for Trump to waste over $300 million in taxpayer money for a gilded ballroom no one asked for. When Trump looked Americans  in the eye and lied about it, Blanche stood by him. A nominee who has already proven he will force Americans to bankroll Trump’s pet project has no business being confirmed as America’s lawyer.”
