WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Senate voted to confirm Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Todd Blanche as Attorney General in a 50-49 vote.

In response, the Not Above the Law coalition’s co-chairs — Lisa Gilbert, Co-President of Public Citizen; Praveen Fernandes, Vice President of the Constitutional Accountability Center; Kelsey Herbert, Campaign Director at MoveOn; and Brett Edkins, Managing Director for Policy and Political Affairs at Stand Up America – released the following statement:

“The Senate’s confirmation of Trump’s lawyer Todd Blanche is a betrayal of its duty to defend the rule of law and protect the American people. Blanche has one client—and it’s not the American people. Every Republican senator who voted yes chose party loyalty over principle, and they will own every abuse of power that follows.

“This confirmation is not the end of our fight. The Not Above the Law coalition will continue exposing exactly who Todd Blanche works for and holding him and Donald Trump accountable.”
