WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following President Trump’s official nomination of Todd Blanche as Attorney General, the Not Above the Law coalition is doubling down on its Block Blanche campaign, pressing the Senate to reject Trump’s personal fixer as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer. The coalition previously delivered a letter to senators signed by 30 advocacy organizations calling on them to oppose Blanche’s confirmation.
Following the news, the co-chairs of the Not Above The Law Coalition – Lisa Gilbert, Public Citizen; Praveen Fernandes, Constitutional Accountability Center; Kelsey Herbert, MoveOn; and Brett Edkins, Stand Up America made the following statement:
“Donald Trump just made it official with his personal fixer. Todd Blanche has spent months running the Justice Department like it’s Trump’s family law firm, and now Trump wants to give him the Attorney General title. The Senate has one job here: reject Blanche. Blanche weaponized the DOJ against Trump’s enemies, fired career prosecutors, and cut deals for his boss — including by blocking the full release of the Epstein files, crafting a $1.8 billion slush fund for Trump’s political allies, and trying to arrange immunity from IRS audits for Trump and his family.
“Every senator who lets this nomination sail through is signing off on the end of an independent Justice Department. We’re not letting them do that quietly.”
The Block Blanche Campaign targets senators whose votes could determine whether Blanche is confirmed, calling on each to publicly commit to opposing his confirmation early, when pressure matters most.
The campaign will include an ongoing suite of tactics organized around the coalition’s central argument: Todd Blanche is not America’s Attorney General. He is Donald Trump’s personal fixer.
