Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee postponed its vote on Todd Blanche’s confirmation as Attorney General, showing that Blanche doesn’t have the votes to advance out of committee, and giving Republicans more time to pressure their own holdouts rather than reconsider the nomination itself.
In response, the Not Above the Law coalition’s co-chairs – Lisa Gilbert, Co-President of Public Citizen; Praveen Fernandes, Vice President of the Constitutional Accountability Center; Kelsey Herbert, Campaign Director at MoveOn; and Brett Edkins, Managing Director for Policy and Political Affairs at Stand Up America – issued the following statement:
“Republicans just postponed today’s vote on Todd Blanche’s nomination, and here’s why: Blanche has refused, in writing and under oath, to produce a single signed document confirming that the $1.776 billion slush fund, and its unprecedented tax immunity provisions for Trump and his family, is dead. More time and more calls from the White House won’t change that.
“The Senate doesn’t need more time with Todd Blanche. Today’s delay is an admission that Trump does not intend to give up his broad immunity or slush fund for January 6 insurrectionists, not a simple pause. Every senator should reject this nomination now.”
