President Trump’s nominee for Attorney General has been remarkably candid about how the Department of Justice actually operates under him, upending almost every post-Watergate reform of federal law enforcement.
In a series of interviews and public appearances over the past several months, Blanche has:
- Endorsed the view that DOJ works “for” the President personally, and confirmed the department will act on criminal referrals originating from the White House
- Supported the mass pardons/commutations of January 6 defendants and declined to rule out vacating convictions for Proud Boys and Oath Keepers leaders
- Confirmed that over 200 DOJ personnel connected to investigations of Trump have been fired, resigned, or retired early and claimed the FBI has been similarly purged
- Declared the Epstein files review “over” while dismissively arguing attending Epstein’s parties or visiting his island isn’t itself criminal
- Defended the $2 billion slush fund he set up, including potential payments to January 6 defendants who assaulted police officers
- Claimed there is “a ton of evidence” the 2020 election was “rigged”
- Refused to rule out reopening a criminal investigation into former Fed Chair Jerome Powell
- Recruited young conservative lawyers for a “war” against judges who block Trump policies
Blanche has made it abundantly clear: he works for President Trump, not the American people, and he will defend all Trump Administration corruption while going after any American that Trump wants punished.
Here’s the proof in his own words:
On Independence from the President
- Blanche affirms that he and Trump believe the Attorney General is the President’s lawyer, not the people’s. “President Trump, for the first time in modern history, has said ‘I am the President and if you work in the executive branch you work for me.’ And guess what, we can all read the Constitution, he’s right. And unfortunately, past administrations, Republican included, have just resigned themselves to putting up with partisan actors within the DOJ. We do not.” [CPAC, 3/26/26]
- Blanche on Taking Direction from the President: “Yes We’ll Investigate That.” “As far as whether we would take a criminal referral from the White House — Yes! If somebody knows about fraud, please tell us. So if the President says ‘I heard there’s fraud in Minneapolis,’ like any president, I hope the AG would absolutely say, ‘Yes, we’ll investigate that.’” [DOJ Press Briefing, 4/7/26]
On the January 6 Pardons
- Blanche Brags About DOJ’s work to Pardon and Commute Sentences of J6ers. “If you look at what happened to the men and women convicted because of January 6th, by 5pm on January 20th every one of them was either pardoned or had their sentence commuted, ok? So when folks say ‘you’ve done nothing,’ I say ‘you have a very short memory.’” [CPAC, 3/26/26]
- Blanche Wouldn’t Rule Out Vacating Convictions for Proud Boys and Oath Keepers.
Bash: “Do you plan to vacate convictions of Proud Boys and Oath Keepers who were involved in the January 6 attack on the Capitol?”
Blanche: “That’s ongoing litigation. You’ll hear from us in the coming days. Their sentences were commuted by President Trump”
Bash: “You’re not ruling it out?”
Blanche: “No. We’re not ruling anything out.” [CNN, 4/26/26]
On Purging DOJ and FBI of January 6 Prosecutors
- Blanche Brags About Purging January 6 Prosecutors at DOJ and FBI.
Blanche: “The other things that are happening: There is not a single man or woman at the Department of Justice who had anything to do with those prosecutions [of President Trump].”
Schlapp: “How many have been canned?”
Blanche: “Over 200. Over 200 either left before we came in because they knew it was coming, or were fired, or took early retirement. They are no longer employed at the Department of Justice. And when it comes to the FBI, which takes a lot of criticism, especially because of what happened over the past several years, Director Patel has cleaned house there too. There isn’t a single man or woman with a gun, federal agent, still in that organization that had anything to do with the prosecutions of President Trump.” [CPAC, 3/26/26]
On the Epstein Files
- Blanche: “It Isn’t A Crime to Party With Mr. Epstein.” “The American people need to understand that it isn’t a crime to party with Mr. Epstein. It isn’t a crime to have lunch on his island.” [Fox News, 2/2/26]
- Blanche on Epstein Files: “This Review is Over.” “This review is over.” [ABC This Week, 2/2/26]
On the $1.8 Billion Slush Fund
- Blanche Sees No Issues with $1.8 Billion Slush Fund for Trump Allies. “I do not think the American people have issues with that. To the contrary, I think they do want their tax dollars spent on things like that.” [CNN, 5/20/26]
- Blanche Sees No Problem with J6ers that Attacked Police Receiving Taxpayer Compensation. “People that hurt police get money all the time.” [CNN, 5/20/26]
On the 2020 Election
- Blanche: “There’s a Ton of Evidence That the 2020 Election Was Rigged.” “There’s a ton of evidence that the 2020 election was rigged. We have multiple investigations. This is very difficult because they are very good at hiding misconduct.” [Fox Business, 5/17/26]
On Prosecuting Jerome Powell
- Blanche Wouldn’t Rule Out Prosecuting Jerome Powell Again.
Welker: “You don’t rule out the possibility that there could be a criminal investigation reopened into Jerome Powell after Kevin Warsh is confirmed?”
Blanche: “This is an investigation, so I’m not going to prejudge what the investigation will find. We’ll see what happens.” [NBC News, 4/26/26]
On Judges Blocking Trump Policies
- Blanche Recruits Young Conservative Lawyers for “War” Against Judiciary. “We need you [young conservative lawyers], because it is a war, and it’s something we will not win unless we keep on fighting. It’s hard to get the media, it’s hard to get the American people to focus on what a travesty it is when you have an individual judge be able to stop an entire operation or an entire administrative policy that’s constitutional and allowed just because he or she chooses to do so. So, it’s a war.” [Federalist Society, 11/7/25]
