Not Above the Law Co-Chairs Demand Comer Compel Bondi’s Testimony on Epstein Files

WASHINGTON, DC — After Attorney General Pam Bondi’s scheduled deposition was removed from the House Oversight Committee’s calendar, the Not Above the Law coalition’s co-chairs – Lisa Gilbert, Co-President of Public Citizen; Praveen Fernandes, Vice President of the Constitutional Accountability Center; Kelsey Herbert, Campaign Director at MoveOn; and Brett Edkins, Managing Director for Policy and Political Affairs at Stand Up America – issued the following statement calling on Chairman James Comer to confirm Bondi’s compliance:

“Bondi was subpoenaed by name, not by title, to answer for her failed leadership and catastrophic mishandling of the Epstein files. Yet Chairman Comer’s acceptance of the Trump Department of Justice’s flawed legal reasoning rather than compel her testimony, is a clear abandonment of his fundamental duty to provide congressional oversight.

“Oversight isn’t merely this committee’s name – it is its fundamental purpose and duty, and Comer’s capitulation undermines the constitutional system of checks and balances that holds even former Attorneys General accountable.

“By allowing Bondi to evade her obligation to testify and secure the answers Americans deserve, Chairman Comer is refusing to fulfill his responsibility as Committee Chairman. He must do his job or admit he’s unwilling to hold this administration accountable.”
